Hibiscus & Ginger Cold Brew Tea

This chilled hibiscus and ginger infusion is my go‑to summer drink, bright, floral, and lightly spiced. It’s simple to make, looks stunning, and tastes even better after a swim in the sea.

Why Hibiscus Helps

Hibiscus tea supports hydration, digestion, and overall wellness. It has a mild diuretic effect, which helps reduce water retention and bloating. Your stomach feels flatter when you drink it regularly. Hibiscus also supports healthy blood pressure and provides a caffeine-free alternative to sugary drinks, helping reduce daily calorie intake.

Why Ginger Helps With Weight Loss

Ginger naturally boosts thermogenesis, meaning it slightly increases heat production in the body and helps burn a few extra calories. It also helps stabilise blood sugar, reducing hunger and cravings. Ginger improves digestion, reduces inflammation, and supports a smoother metabolism, it gives a small but consistent advantage.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup hibiscus leaves
  • 1 thumb-sized piece of fresh ginger, sliced
  • 1.5 litres cold water
  • Honey (optional, added after brewing)

Method

  1. Add the hibiscus leaves to a large jug.
  2. Slice a thumb-sized piece of fresh ginger and add it to the jug.
  3. Pour in 1.5 litres of cold water.
  4. Place the jug in the fridge for 8–12 hours.
  5. Strain the tea and discard the leaves and ginger.
  6. Add honey to taste if desired.

Notes

  • For a stronger ginger flavour, use a piece the size of two thumbs.
  • Cold brewing keeps the tea smooth and never bitter.
  • Honey dissolves best after brewing.
